Here's an interview with our own Danny Muggs in Spanish Magazine Rock and Roll Army in anticipation of our 2012 European Tour:
RaRA: In a few days you are touring Spain again for the third time. What do you think about our country? Do you think it's a great place for Rock n Roll? DannyMuggs: We truly love Spain. The architecture is beautiful and its history is fascinating. We can't wait to get back there to explore the various cities... each one has its own unique charm. It's very exciting for boys from Detroit to immerse themselves in Spanish culture. It is such a thrill for us. Plus, Spain is such a great place to play. For some reason, the people of Spain really appreciate bluesy rock and roll, moreso than in the United States.
RaRA: This is going to be your largest tour of Spain until now. What do you expect? DannyMuggs: This is the longest tour we have ever done. It will be a lot of work and travel but we are really excited. We get to play cities we have never been to as well as cities we love like Madrid and Barcelona. We would tour Spain twice a year if we could. It's like a rock-and-roll vacation. We look forward to meeting new people and visiting some old friends. Plus, we have a new record to promote. It will be exciting to play these new songs for our friends and fans in Spain.
RaRA: Do you feel you are becoming bigger between Spanish Rock and Roll fans every time you come back around here? DannyMuggs: We have been very lucky because the Spanish rock fans have been very enthusiastic at all of our shows. Each tour has been better than the last and we hope this upcoming tour will be the best yet. We really feed off the energy of the Spanish rock fans and it really inspires us to put on a great show.
RaRA: Your last album was "Born Ugly", what are the main differences with your previous two albums? DannyMuggs: "Born Ugly" was the first time that we attempted to make a concept record where all the songs are intertwined thematically. It was a challenge but we are very happy with how it turned out. Songs like 'Blood Meridian', 'Dear Theo', 'Sturm Und Drang', and 'Hats Off To Mr. Beardsley' are all linked to certain art movements and literature that i had been reading at the time. The first two albums were collections of blues-rock songs but 'Born Ugly' is an attempt at a unified concept with a beginning and an end. It was a challenge but so much fun to try.
RaRA: We can still hear that Zeppelin-esque sound, but I think this album sounds more heavier than "On with the Show" for instance. Do you agree? DannyMuggs: This is our first record with our new drummer Todd Glass who joined us two years ago. Todd is amazing and has a very unique drumming style. His drumming has elements of Keith Moon, Mick Fleetwood, and Bill Ward. so we experimented with heavier arrangements like Black Sabbath, Free and The Who. We also produced the record with Detroit legend Jim Diamond. Jim really produced this record like a late 60s heavy rock band and we think it came out fantastic. All of these factors really contributed to the heaviness of this record.
RaRA: Last time we interviewed you in 2010 you said you were seeking for a label to release the album, and finally "Born Ugly" was again self released. Are the times hard for a band like yours? Is there a future for Rock and Roll? DannyMuggs: Times are very hard for anybody that is playing real rock and roll. The rise of the internet and the collapse of the record industry really has made it a challenge to stay afloat in the music business. But there are still amazing rock bands all over. You just have to seek them out yourself. It is actually easier to put out a record on your own with the new technology. The challenge is finding an audience. But if you write good songs and can put on an honest, energetic show, the audience will find you. That's what we believe, anyway. At least we get to make the music we want without a label telling us what to play. There is a certain dignity in that. We're gonna rock all the way to the poorhouse!
RaRA: By the way, "Born Ugly" was released in 2011. Are you working on new material? DannyMuggs: We have been touring pretty heavily in support of the new record so we haven't had much of a chance to rehearse new music. But I am always always writing. The next record will be very bluesy in nature. At least that is how the new songs are sounding in my head so far. Hopefully we can have something new by the end of the year. Dare to dream.
RaRA: So what's next for The Muggs apart from this European and Spanish tour? DannyMuggs: We will probably do some more touring throughout the United States to promote "Born Ugly". We would love to go on tour with a great band that we are similar to, like the Black Keys or the Derek Trucks band. Other than that, this Spanish tour is the highlight of our present careers. It just doesn't get any better than a Spanish tour.
RaRA: What kind of set list are we going to see on this tour? Are you going to play songs from the three albums? DannyMuggs: We will definitely be playing songs from all three albums. We have been rehearsing very hard for this tour. We want to be prepared to play any song, just in case someone has a song request. We also like to play a different show every night just to keep things fresh and challenging. We will also be playing covers from some of our favorite bands like the Beatles, Rory Gallagher, Cream, Savoy Brown, the James Gang and Free. Anything that makes for a great blues-rock show.
RaRA: Ok, we are ending this interview, any last words for your Spanish fans? DannyMuggs: Put on your dancing shoes 'cause here come the Muggs!!!!!!!!!
RaRA: Thank you very much Danny, see you in a few days! DannyMuggs: And thank you as well. We are sooo excited.

Stick It In Detroit — the Movie
The Muggs are proud to have 2 songs be represented in this hilarious movie. I was at the premiere on Weds. Oct 14th and I have to say this movie has legit national potential. The movie has no filler. Yer laughing the entire way through. The characters are memorable. The situations hysterical, and the soundtrack is all Detroit! See this movie, which I compare to Dazed & Confused, or even Caddyshack at moments but the thing is, it's funnier. Get behind this film people. Best, the Muggs

Here's our latest album review, from Ray's Realm:
Damn it, I shoulda paid attention! I knew Mrs. Bernard was right! Mrs. Bernard was my 5th grade teacher. She is no longer with us, God rest her soul, as I heard of her demise a few years ago in a local news article about the soup company she (post teaching career) and her son had run. She was a hard-ass, she screamed & yelled and scared the living shit out of every one of us piss-ass 5th graders but damn if she wasn't right. If there was something she said 1000 times, it was "Pay attention!" "PAY ATTENTION!!!" But did I? No. Last year, a guy I should listen to, a guy who knows music told me his favourite disc of the year was "On With The Show" by THE MUGGS. This was not just some fluke who came & went but a dude who's listening was known to include '70's hard rock hierarchy like Marcus, Target, Poobah, etc. But I basically blew him off! Why? Who friggin' knows, maybe I thought the band name was silly, but I should know better than that, right? Anyway, all the sudden not long ago, an email shows up in the ol' Realm-box saying "THE MUGGS have added you as a friend on Myspace." Hmm…wasn't that the band…yeah, yeah…and I jotted 'em a note. Sure enough a few days later, this piece of plastic by Detroit's self-proclaimed "ugliest band in the world" came sliding into my mailbox and…well, let's just say it hasn't left the player since.
I could do a lot of things right now, and I'll touch on several of them. I could begin by saying the intro to opening cut "Motown Blues" sounds like something off Cactus' '71 masterpiece "One Way Or Another." I could continue by saying that when the band kicks in on this song, the results are right up there with anything ever plastered by Day-McCarty-Bogert-&-Appice. Of course, I could touch on the fact that the guitar solo in this number alone has elevated Danny Methric to godlike status in my eyes already. I might add that the next song, "Slow Curve" is even better. Grand Funk? Never heard of 'em! Rockkicks? Who? James Gang? Joe Who, who was their guitarist? This shit'll make you start asking those kind of questions, that's the kind of ass it kicks. I could do a lot more things but the only one that I should do is take you by the hand, help you get your credit card out & direct you to the sites below. And we haven't even gotten to the middle-eastern guitar intro to the title song, sliding into the prime Status Quo boogie to follow, the tear-your-heart-out-gorgeous lament of "Curbside Constellation Blues" or the seething, paint-scraping "Never Know Why." The real point is that everywhere they touch on this disc, Methric, Tony DeNardo (Rhodes bass) & Matt Rost (drums) serve up a mega-watt dollup of bluesed-out, raw and heavy RAWK that will pin your eyelids back, make your eardrums history, rip the soul from your gut and ask questions later. Listen closely, my friends: Had this record been issued in 1972, it could have been in that year's Top 10. In 1972!!! If your record collection includes Stepson, Diamond Reo (not the country band, asswipe!) or early ZZ Top, this will sidle up nicely alongside each. If it doesn't, it will instantly become the best disc you own. The choice is your's to act, so don't let me say it again... PAY ATTENTION!

This is a translation of Janne Stark's upcoming review at metalcentral.net:
American band The Muggs call themselves "the ugliest band in the world" and surely enough they won't win any beauty contests or have a bunch of chicks on their tails because of their beautiful looks and flowing blond hair. Well, fuck that. When it comes to The Muggs, the music is more than enough. I was really into the band already on the self-titled debut, and the following live-DVD proved the band's qualities on stage as well. Now the follow-up "On With The Show" is here and in my opinion it does even surpass the outstanding debut. The Muggs is a power trio, something they may not really sound like on record, but more like a power quartet (guitar dubs), which is no complaint at all from my side. They deliver a great, energetic powerful collection of songs with the roots deeply set in the seventies humus. Nope, we're not talking stoner here, this is the REAL DEAL with references like Mountain, Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin and James Gang — riff oriented seventies based hard rock with a southern touch. The title track is a straight ahead, almost sixties influenced thing, while "All Around You" is a bit reminiscent of vintage Black Sabbath and "Curbside Constellation Blues" is, as you may suspect, a pure semi-soft blues with a touch of piano. The band also sounds quite seventies authentic, but without taking the retro thing too far. I also get vibes of obscure old favourites like Jukin' Bone, Truth & Janey and Totty, which is not bad in my book. It's however in the rougher songs like "Down Below", "Get It On", "Slow Curve" and "Just Another Fool" they really shine.
